Here is a Rolex Day-Date Ref. 1803 that looks nothing like your average president’s Rolex! A unique specimen for the keen-eyed observer.
Let’s dive straight into what sets this beauty apart: those amazing claw indices and tapering hands. A unique combination you will only find on early Day-Dates. Combined with the otherwise familiar DD recipe, it provides a more old-school look and a more aggressive aesthetic. The indices also over-arch the edge of the pie-pan dial. The tritium is placed underneath, resulting in a sort of shelter, also referred to as a “carport” index.
Another eye-catcher is the “cigarette” handset. A more tapered version of the regular pencil hands, providing yet another twist to the Day-Date design we all know and love.
