The President of Rolex watches has built quite a reputation over the years. The only reason why the Day-Date has maintained its reputation is that Rolex has only produced the watch fully in precious metals next to the fact that many influential people have been spotted wearing one. This watch simply radiates wealth and status, and that is something many people want to show. The Day-Date we just received back from service is no exception to that description, but it is a little untraditional.
This Day-Date is from 1972 and it’s an absolute beauty. The precious metal used for this piece is 18k. white gold, it even got a little patina over the years making it visibly different compared to stainless steel, the glow is simply much better. This piece is equipped with a grey polar dial. The type of grey on this dial is what makes this piece so beautiful, it colours effortlessly with the white gold case, and because the two fit so well together the overall look of the watch becomes more solid an uniform. Don’t be mistaken, the fluted bezel and diamond hour markers still make it look like a real president’s watch, the baguette diamonds on the 6 and 9 o’clock for sure. The letter printing on the dial is done in white rather than black, giving the watch a nice contrast.
Unfortunately, the paint on the dial has been damaged a little in the center, but very minimal. The pictures show it in the worst way possible so you can decide whether you can live with it. We can live with it for sure. When having this piece on the wrist all the of the beautiful details will be all you see and remember.
