Panerai Marina 40mm Ref. PAM00048 B+P+SP

The Luminor Marina is Panerai at its most iconic! This PAM00048, produced in 2002, represents the model in one of its desirable smaller forms: a 40mm case, sized smaller than most signature Panerai’s, making it more wearable as it is striking.

Few watch brands carry a story as compelling as Panerai. Born in Florence in 1860 as a supplier of precision instruments to the Italian Navy, Panerai spent decades crafting tools for elite combat divers. Their watches are built not only to impress, but also to perform under the most demanding conditions imaginable. That military DNA never left. At the heart of this watch is the legendary sandwich dial. Two layers of material, with luminous compound glowing through precisely cut apertures, a construction technique borrowed directly from the military-issue originals of the 1940s. On this reference, the small seconds subdial at 9 o’clock is finished in rhodium, adding a refined contrast against the deep matte black of the main dial. It’s a detail that rewards a close look: understated, thoughtful, unmistakably Panerai.

The crownguard is another signature worth appreciating. That distinctive lever-and-bridge mechanism running along the right side of the case is not merely decorative as it was engineered to lock the crown securely against accidental opening, a requirement born from the pressures of underwater operations. On the wrist, it gives the Luminor Marina its unmistakable silhouette: bold, asymmetric, and entirely unlike anything else in the watch world.

This PAM00048 is in exceptional condition. As a neo-vintage watch, the case retains excellent definition, the dial is crisp and untouched, and the rhodium seconds subdial shows beautifully. As a bonus, this watch comes complete with its original Panerai box, papers, and service papers, a desirable combination for a watch of this age. For the collector who understands the importance of provenance, this is the one to have.
