Cartier Trinity 18k Ref. 2357

This Cartier Trinity Ref. 2357 is a lovely example of Cartier doing what Cartier does best: turning a watch into something that feels very close to jewellery. Measuring 27 mm and dating to circa 2009, it has a small, elegant presence on the wrist, but the tri-colour gold case (yellow, pink, and white gold) gives it far more character than its modest size might suggest.

Here at AWCO we think the charm is in the way the Trinity idea has been translated into a watch case. The rounded case creates that soft layered effect Cartier is so known for. It frames the silver dial beautifully, while the diamond-set hour markers add just enough sparkle without disturbing the calmness of the design.

The dial itself is wonderfully restrained. There are no numerals, no date and no seconds hand, just the Cartier signature, slim hands and delicate diamond accents for the hours. It gives the watch a quiet, almost floating feel, especially under the sapphire crystal. The cabochon-style crown adds another classic Cartier detail, bringing a small touch of decoration to the side of the case.

This example is fitted to a black leather strap and closed with an aftermarket steel buckle. Inside is a hand-wound movement, nicely in keeping with the watch’s elegant, intimate character.

The Trinity design goes back to 1924, when Louis Cartier created the famous three-band ring in yellow, rose and white gold.
