Heuer Carrera Ref. CS3140-1671 18k

The Heuer Carrera Ref. CS3140-1671 is a magnificent example of racing tradition and watchmaking artistry. Released in 1998, this watch is a re-edition of one of Heuer’s most legendary models. With a diameter of 35 mm, it is modest in size yet grand in presence. The case is crafted in 18k yellow gold, giving it a luxurious brilliance. The watch comes with its original gold buckle, a detail that underlines its authenticity. This reliable hand-wound timepiece, powered by the Lemania 1873 movement, is both thoughtful in design and of exceptional quality.

This caliber has long been at the heart of many iconic chronographs. The Carrera is inseparably linked to motorsport history; its very name evokes speed, precision, and adrenaline.

The re-editions of the 1990s paid tribute to this rich heritage. The decimal minute track on the dial recalls its roots in the rally world. Instructions and navigation were often expressed in hundredths of minutes, making this feature indispensable. It is a detail that transformed the Carrera into a true racing instrument.

One distinctive trait of this re-edition is the dial. On the original 1963 models, the word “Carrera” appeared above the Heuer shield. In this re-edition, that element is absent a subtle but important distinction. The history of Heuer dates back to 1860, when Edouard Heuer founded the company in St. Imier, Switzerland.

In 1911, the brand patented the first dashboard chronograph for cars and aircraft. This innovation marked the beginning of a deep and lasting bond between Heuer and motorsport. The golden era for Heuer came in the 1960s, at the height of racing’s most dangerous days. Drivers wore Heuer chronographs as both practical tools and status symbols. Their daring exploits elevated the watches to legendary status.

At the same time, Heuer continued to produce dress watches, military timepieces, and professional divers. This built a versatile and impressive catalogue for the brand. Wear this watch with the spirit of racing the speed, the adrenaline, and the thrill once experienced by motorsport heroes as they wore this magnificent timepiece during their phenomenal racing moments.

Uhrenmanufaktur Heuer AG was founded in 1860 by Edouard Heuer in St. Imier Switzerland.  In 1911, the company patented the first dashboard chronograph for use in cars and airplanes. It was the start of a rich heritage in motorsports.

Heuer’s prime was during the 1960’s, when the brand was heavily involved in the racing world. Heuer produced chronographs, dashboard instruments and racing chronograph watches. Some of Heuer’s successful lines are the Autavia (Auto & Aviation), Carrera and the iconic square Monaco.

Being so closely involved in such a legendary period of motorsports, landed Heuer a lasting reputation. These were the days when speed had reached dazzling levels but safety measures had not. The death-defying drivers became celebrity heroes and their watches are highly collectible until this day.

But the brand’s catalogue is not limited to racing watches. When you dive into Heuer’s history you will run into subtle dress watches, rugged military-issued models and seaworthy divers.

Then, in 1985, TAG group bought a controlling stake in the business and Heuer became Tag Heuer. The new company was then bought by French luxury conglomerate LVMH in 1999. While the modern Tag Heuer appeals to a new audience, vintage aficionados flock to highly collectible watches from the Heuer days.

So whether you are a speedfreak or just into watches that tell a story, Heuer has got you covered.
