Patek Philippe lady travel time ref.4864 + SP
We do love it when a watch quietly surprises us, and the Patek Philippe Lady Travel Time ref. 4864 does exactly that.
This Patek Philippe Lady Travel Time reference 4864 is one of those watches that quietly offers more than first meets the eye. At a glance, it has all the elegance one hopes for from a ladies’ Patek Philippe: a compact 29 mm yellow gold case, a clean white dial, and beautifully restrained proportions. Look a little closer, however, and the Travel Time complication reveals a more thoughtful and uncommon side to the watch.
This piece dates to ca. 1998 and is fitted with a leather strap and its original 18k gold buckle. The white dial keeps the overall look calm and classical, while the second time zone adds a subtle layer of functionality without disturbing the watch’s refined character. It is exactly this balance that makes the reference so appealing: elegant in appearance, yet slightly more unusual the longer you look at it.
Inside beats a hand-wound movement, a fitting choice for a watch of this profile. Taken as a whole, the ref. 4864 offers a softer and more discreet side of the Travel Time concept, where precious metal, proportion, and complication come together in a way that feels effortless rather than overstated. Furthermore, this example is accompanied by its Patek Philippe service box and papers, adding to its appeal as a well-kept and thoughtfully preserved piece.

All the way back in 1839, Franciszek Czapek and Antoni Patek founded Patek, Czapek & Cie. in Geneva. The two Polish watchmakers manufactured pocket watches until an argument drove them apart in 1845. Patek teamed up with French watchmaker Adrien Philippe and in 1851, Patek, Philippe & Cie. was officially registered and the story of arguably the finest of watch manufacturers was truly underway.
The company would amass an impressive array of firsts and records. Among which the first perpetual calendar pocket watch, first split-second chronograph wristwatch, first perpetual calendar wristwatch and for twenty-seven years they held the record for most complicated watch movement: 33 complications.
Yes, we have entered the realm of haute horology.
The house registered its Calatrava cross logo in 1887. The Calatrava would later become one of the brand’s celebrated collections and even a design template for other brands.
Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin form what is lovingly referred to as the Holy trinity of watchmaking. Three houses that specialized in haute horology, pushing the boundaries of mechanical watchmaking, decoration and finishing techniques.
Much like Rolex and Omega rule the everyday-watch category, the Holy trinity rules haute horology. A sentiment reflected in Patek’s motto since 1996: You never actually own a Patek Philippe. You merely look after it for the next generation.
