Patek Philippe Calatrava Ref. 3411 18k

This classic yellow gold watch from the 1960s embodies pure elegance.

With its 35 mm diameter, it wears comfortably and timelessly. Inside the case beats the renowned caliber 27SC, a true hallmark of Swiss precision. The silver dial exudes simplicity and refinement.

The slender baton indexes provide a subtle balance, while the central seconds hand adds functionality and rhythm.

A beautiful leather strap lends the piece both style and warmth, ensuring excellent comfort on the wrist.

The watch combines refined luxury with everyday wearability.

This masterpiece belongs to the iconic Patek Philippe Calatrava family.

The Calatrava was born in 1932, marking the beginning of a new era. That was the year when brothers Charles and Jean Stern took over the Patek Philippe manufacture. They endowed the collection with the symbolism of the Calatrava cross. The cross stands for loyalty, prestige, and unwavering quality—values this watch still radiates today.

The Calatrava was the brand’s first true family of timepieces. It quickly grew into a legend within the world of horology. Its round case and flat bezel emphasize perfect simplicity. No superfluous details—only pure harmony. This Calatrava is the epitome of discreet craftsmanship. It appeals to connoisseurs who value understatement.

The watch remains in impressive condition. Despite its age, it continues to exude vitality.

It is ready to be worn with pride. More than just a timepiece, it is a symbol of timeless class.

And an icon that embodies the very soul of Patek Philippe.

In 1932, the year in which brothers Charles and Jean Stern acquired Patek Philippe, the name of the manufacture’s prestigious symbol, the Calatrava cross, was given to a watch collection. The first true ‘family’ of watches Patek Philippe had created, the Calatrava quickly became a classic and is still regarded today as the brand’s most iconic collection.

The design was inspired by the Bauhaus movement, a German school of Arts based on the belief that ‘less is more’ and ‘form follows function’. Since the purpose of a watch is to tell the time, these principles discouraged any embellishments which could detract from the time-telling.

The result was a watch that was at once beautiful and practical. Presented in a round case with a flat bezel and simple dial with baton indices, the art of omission in the debut model Ref. 96, came to characterize the Calatrava’s understated, yet timeless style.

The design has become a template for other brands. A simple, minimalist dress watch with a sub-dial for the seconds at six o’clock, is often referred to as a Calatrava watch, regardless of the brand. So while Patek did it first, it is perfectly reasonable to stumble upon a JLC Calatrava or a Vacheron Constantin Calatrava.
