ELKA chrono

This is the story of an Amsterdam icon, where the Kiek name and the ELKA legacy converge in a technical masterpiece from the 1950s.

The Amsterdam timeless master: The ELKA Chrono.

In the heart of post-war Amsterdam, on the prestigious Kalverstraat, a watch house synonymous with royal class and technical innovation flourished.

The name ELKA is more than just a brand name; it’s a tribute wrapped in an acronym: Eduard Louis Kiek Amsterdam. Or, as it’s also known, ELectrische Klok Amsterdam. The Kiek family was an institution in the Dutch watchmaking world; a name so respected that they were even purveyor to the royal household and watchmaker to Queen Juliana.

This particular ELKA chronograph from the 1950s (ref. 135707) is a rare relic from a time when watches were still purely mechanical instruments. Beneath the steel case lies a legend: the Valjoux 23 movement. This hand-wound caliber is praised by collectors worldwide as one of the finest chronograph movements ever made, renowned for its precision and durability.

Although the Kiek family sold collaborations with major names like Rolex and Heuer in their upscale businesses, their own ELKA creations bore a very specific Amsterdam signature. This chronograph from the 1950s embodies that era:

The Case: Crafted from robust steel, designed to last a lifetime.

The Movement: A mechanical, hand-wound caliber that reflects the pure essence of traditional watchmaking.

The Heritage: A watch representing the heyday of the Amsterdam watch trade, straight from the archives of the Elka Watch Co.

Today, this rich history is cherished by AWCo (Amsterdam Watch Company). With this watch, you not only acquire a beautiful instrument but also a tangible piece of the city of Amsterdam. It’s a reminder of the time when the Kiek name inspired awe on every corner of Kalverstraat, and the family set the standard for what a luxury watch should be.

An ELKA chronograph is more than just a watch; it’s a tribute to Eduard Louis Kiek and the unforgettable influence his family had on timekeeping in the Netherlands.
