The former President of the United States found watchmaking excellence in his Rolex Day-Date. The Day-Date is and always has been the flagship model of the Geneva-based brand. Only precious metals, the first to get a sapphire crystal, worn by presidents. This is a symbol of status and success. Specifically in this configuration.
This Day-Date has the 5 digit reference, putting it in the generation with date quickset and sapphire crystal which was introduced in 1982. The standard dials in Day-Dates were often champagne or silver. These funky dials were still a little exclusive at the time, making them more rare and desirable today. This is a good example; burgundy red vignette dial with factory set diamond indexes and gold letter printing. And it’s absolutely beautiful.
The pretty red dial is housed in the famous 36mm oyster case with a fluted bezel. The gold tone of vintage Rolex watches is a lot warmer and less flashy compared to the new pieces. This combined with the burgundy vignette dial makes it a really exciting and stylish piece.
