A.Lange & Sohne Saxomat (Langematik) 18k

Watch maker A. Lange & Söhne was established in Glashütte, Saxony, by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in 1845. In the following 100 years, pocket watches by A. Lange were the most sought-after in the world. This lasted until the second world war put an end to the company. In 1990, Walter Lange, great-grandson of Ferdinand A. Lange resurrected the company, later bringing it under the Richemont Group umbrella. Today, the company employs 500 people, half of which watchmakers. They produces watches representative of modern German watchmaking in quality and finishing.

One example of their highlights is the development of the Langematik in 1997. The one you see here, in 18k rose gold with sapphire caseback was made around the year 2000. The finishing is amazing, as the brand is known for. This is a Sax-o-mat zero reset, meaning the seconds hand resets to zero when you pull the crown. This allows for precise setting of the time. The watch is 8mm thick and 37mm across. The case is made up of three parts, mid-case, bezel and caseback.

The epicenter of the watch is the in-house caliber L921.2. It features a dreiviertelrotor, a 3/4 rotor made of 21k yellow gold with a platinum band. The movement plates are made of German silver, which tends to discolor over time. Connoisseurs love the fact that the materials develop patina, adding even more character. Everything is hand-made and hand-engraved. So beautiful that you might as well wear the watch upside down.

This Sax-O-mat is nick-named ‘Sexymat’, probably because of its luscious curves. As Lange themselves put it: the devil is in the details. Here, at AWCo, we feel this sexy devil is a masterpiece!

Uurwerkfabriek A. Lange & Söhne werd opgericht in Glashütte, Saxony, door Ferdinand A. lange in 1845.

Ook zegt Lange zelf: ‘The devil is in the details´.
