Rolex Date 18k Ref.1500
Gold Rolex, but make it easy.
This Rolex Date Ref. 1500 from 1966 has all the warmth you want from an 18k yellow gold vintage Rolex, without turning into a big statement piece. At 34 mm, it sits neatly on the wrist: compact, elegant and quietly full of character.
The champagne dial keeps everything beautifully tone-on-tone. Applied gold baton markers, slim gold hands and the date at three o’clock beneath the Cyclops give it that familiar Rolex rhythm, while the acrylic crystal adds the soft vintage profile we always like to see. It is golden, yes, but not shouty. More old-school charm than boardroom flex.
The case is classic Oyster Perpetual Date: smooth, balanced and wonderfully wearable. The polished bezel adds just enough sparkle around the dial, with the brown leather strap adding to that look. It gives the watch a relaxed, almost casual elegance, which suits a 34 mm gold Rolex surprisingly well.
The Rolex Date has always been a bit of a sweet spot in the vintage world. Smaller than a Datejust, more practical than an Air-King, and still carrying the essentials: Oyster case, automatic movement, date, Cyclops and that unmistakable Rolex feel. It is the kind of watch that does not need to prove much. It simply works.
A warm 18k yellow gold Rolex Date with a champagne dial, polished bezel and lovely vintage proportions. Compact, charming and very easy to enjoy. Come see it for yourself at Reestraat 3, Amsterdam.

The Rolex Date line is perhaps a bit of a hidden gem. Overlooked by the male audience when fashion dictated watches should be big in the early 2000s. Now that the trends are leaning towards smaller again, they are being rediscovered as a pretty great size for both men and women. Of course, there are smaller sizes available as well, but the 34mm is the most common.
Rolex launched the 36mm Datejust and the 34mm Air King in 1945. About a decade later, the Date was added as a sort of in-between model. The same 34mm Oyster case as the Air King, but with the addition of a date and cyclops like the Datejust.
So what you have here is a watch that is technically the same as a Datejust, but since its smaller size scares off some of the potential buyers, it is much more affordable. So if you are confident wearing a subtle size like this (if you are not, come and try one on. You will be converted) this is a real sweet spot in the vintage Rolex market!
The Date comes in tons of variations. From rare early models with gilt dials and dagger hands, to super minimalist silver dial, oyster bracelet examples. You can have your pick of materials, colors and bracelets. There is surely a version that will speak to you!
