Patek Philippe Calatrava Lady Ref. 4809
The unspoken promise: Patek Philippe Calatrava Lady (Ref. 4809).
In the world of haute horlogerie, there are watches, and then there is the Patek Philippe Calatrava. This specific model, the Calatrava Lady ref. 4809, is more than just a women’s watch; it is a piece of wearable perfection from 1994.
Born in an era that was exploring the boundaries between classic elegance and modern independence, this Calatrava embodies the pure, minimalist aesthetic for which the collection (inspired by the German Bauhaus school) has been famous since 1932.
This is the ultimate dress watch. Its round shape, the Calatrava trademark, exudes a timeless elegance that makes it immune to fleeting fashion trends. It is crafted from precious metal, and although its lines are simple, the high-quality finishing reveals its pedigree in every detail. Even the original gold buckle confirms the authenticity and luxury inherent to the brand.
What makes this model so special is not only its outward beauty but also the invisible value it carries. As a Patek Philippe, it enjoys unparalleled prestige and strong value retention. Owning this watch is a mark of distinction, a silent confirmation of the wearer’s status.
This 1994 Calatrava comes with its service papers, documents that confirm its journey through time and its careful maintenance. It is a watch designed to last for decades, not only technically but also aesthetically.
The Patek Philippe Calatrava Lady ref. 4809 is now ready to embark on a new phase. It awaits the wrist of a lady who appreciates the exceptional craftsmanship and historical significance of Patek Philippe. It was designed for formal occasions, for milestones, and for daily moments that are made memorable by their refinement.

In 1932, the year in which brothers Charles and Jean Stern acquired Patek Philippe, the name of the manufacture’s prestigious symbol, the Calatrava cross, was given to a watch collection. The first true ‘family’ of watches Patek Philippe had created, the Calatrava quickly became a classic and is still regarded today as the brand’s most iconic collection.
The design was inspired by the Bauhaus movement, a German school of Arts based on the belief that ‘less is more’ and ‘form follows function’. Since the purpose of a watch is to tell the time, these principles discouraged any embellishments which could detract from the time-telling.
The result was a watch that was at once beautiful and practical. Presented in a round case with a flat bezel and simple dial with baton indices, the art of omission in the debut model Ref. 96, came to characterize the Calatrava’s understated, yet timeless style.
The design has become a template for other brands. A simple, minimalist dress watch with a sub-dial for the seconds at six o’clock, is often referred to as a Calatrava watch, regardless of the brand. So while Patek did it first, it is perfectly reasonable to stumble upon a JLC Calatrava or a Vacheron Constantin Calatrava.
