Patek Philippe Ellipse Ref.4482 + SP

What a beauty from Patek. We are proud to present the Patek Philippe Ellipse, reference 4482, from the 1990s. Patek Philippe did an outstanding job designing this watch  it truly embodies all the hallmarks of elegance and refinement.

It features a modest 23 × 28 mm 18k gold case in the iconic elliptical shape. The case is set with diamonds on the front as well as on the lugs, adding a touch of brilliance without overwhelming its refined character.

The watch showcases a stunning blue dial, set with four large diamonds. At 6 o’clock, next to the “Swiss Made” signature, we find the sigma symbol, indicating that the so-called dauphine hands are crafted from gold.

The crown is set with a blue sapphire, beautifully matching the tone of the dial. While this may sound like a lot of precious materials combined, the beauty of the brand lies in its ability to keep the watch elegant and understated, never loud.

Inside, we find the in-house manual-winding caliber 16.250  a beautifully thin movement that makes this piece just as impressive on the inside as it is on the outside.

This watch has just returned from a full service by Patek Philippe and is ready to be worn. It is paired with a new Patek Philippe strap and, of course, retains its original gold buckle.

We would love to see this watch on the wrist of an elegant lady at a red carpet event  or simply worn daily by someone who can truly appreciate and carry its charm.

All the way back in 1839, Franciszek Czapek and Antoni Patek founded Patek, Czapek & Cie. in Geneva. The two Polish watchmakers manufactured pocket watches until an argument drove them apart in 1845. Patek teamed up with French watchmaker Adrien Philippe and in 1851, Patek, Philippe & Cie. was officially registered and the story of arguably the finest of watch manufacturers was truly underway.

The company would amass an impressive array of firsts and records. Among which the first perpetual calendar pocket watch, first split-second chronograph wristwatch, first perpetual calendar wristwatch and for twenty-seven years they held the record for most complicated watch movement: 33 complications.

Yes, we have entered the realm of haute horology.

The house registered its Calatrava cross logo in 1887. The Calatrava would later become one of the brand’s celebrated collections and even a design template for other brands.

Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin form what is lovingly referred to as the Holy trinity of watchmaking. Three houses that specialized in haute horology, pushing the boundaries of mechanical watchmaking, decoration and finishing techniques.

Much like Rolex and Omega rule the everyday-watch category, the Holy trinity rules haute horology. A sentiment reflected in Patek’s motto since 1996: You never actually own a Patek Philippe. You merely look after it for the next generation.
