Yellow Nato watch strap

Whether you have a military watch, a diver’s watch or a chronograph, a NATO-strap will always look good on it. We have a big variety of colors and stripes, of course, one of them is the famous James Bond strap, but we even have different textures and materials. You can give your watch a whole new look by easily lacing one of these cool straps onto it. The NATO straps we have are top quality, made to endure the tough conditions a leather strap won’t bear.

Een soepele horlogeband die zijn oorsprong vond bij militaire horloges, veelal bekend onder de naam ‘Nato’.

Eerlijk is eerlijk: de naam ‘NATO’ is zeer zeker niet correct. Een betere naam is G10 – de code van het formulier waarmee de banden in het leger besteld konden worden. Ze zijn simpel van constructie, maar desondanks liggen de details en vereiste kenmerken vast in een 10 pagina’s tellend document. De laatste update van dit document (Defence Standard 66-47, issue 2) komt overigens uit 2001!

In deze Defence Standard valt onder meer te lezen dat de originele banden gemaakt moesten worden van nylon, 20mm breed, 1,2mm dik, in de kleur grijs. Inmiddels worden de banden echter in veel meer kleuren, maten en materialen gemaakt, zij het nu voor ‘burger’-gebruik. Met name onder Rolex-verzamelaars waren de banden al vroeg populair, onder invloed van de legendarische ‘Mil-Sub’, de militaire uitvoering van de Submariner. Inmiddels zien we ze echter steeds meer en al lang niet meer alleen op militaire horloges. Het is dan ook een goedkope manier om een horloge van een nieuwe en stoere look te voorzien. Bovendien zijn de banden lekker luchtig, snel te verwisselen en wasbaar: ideaal voor de zomer dus! We hebben dan ook een mooie selectie ingekocht in verschillende kleuren en maten.
