Seamaster ‘XVI Olympic’
Toen de 16e Olympische spelen werden gehouden Presenteerde Omega zijn Seamaster XVI met op de wijzerplaat en deksel het gerespecteerde “Olympic Cross of Merit” Een medaille die Omega na de vorige Games in Helsinki (1952) kreeg voor “Outstanding Service to the world of sports” De XVI was een mijlpaal voor Omega omdat ze op dat moment 25 jaar Olympische Tijdmeting verzorgden.
De Seamaster kreeg een compleet nieuw ontworpen horlogekast met spannende stijlkenmerken. Het werd destijds in advertenties geprezen om zijn effectieve bescherming van het briljante automatische uurwerk 25 RA SC-471 tegen vocht, vuil en schokken van buitenaf.
Het exemplaar die wij op de foto’s laten zien is extra bijzonder. De vaste prototype maker van Omega, Jean-Pierre Matthey-Claudet werd opgedragen een serie van 100 stuks te maken waarbij de “Olympic Cross of Merit” middels Chinese lak op de wijzerplaat werd aangebracht. Er zijn twee wijzerplaatversies gemaakt; de Olympische ringen zijn of multicolour of allemaal rood. Een bijzonder zeldzaam horloge, leuk om te hebben, fantastisch om te geven aan wellicht iemand die ook een bijzondere (sport)prestatie heeft geleverd?
