E.A.Cernan, Last Man On The Moon
De volgende woorden zijn uitgesproken door Eugene Cernan vlak voordat hij vanaf de maanondergrond de ladder van de Apollo XVII capsule voor de laatste keer besteeg:
‘Bob, this is Gene, and I’m on the surface; and, as I take man’s last step from the surface, back home for some time to come – but we believe not too long into the future – I’d like to just (say) what I believe history will record: that America’s challenge of today has forged man’s destiny of tomorrow. And, as we leave the Moon at Taurus–Littrow, we leave as we came and, God willing, as we shall return, with peace and hope for all mankind. Godspeed the crew of Apollo 17.

Eugene Cernan was de gezagvoerder van de Apollo XVII missie, de laatste maanlanding in december 1972. Gedurende de landing legde hij ruim 35 kilometer af gebruik makende van de Lunar Rover. Er werd veel tijd gespendeerd aan het verzamelen van geologisch materiaal welke licht zou schijnen op de vroege historie van de maan. In zijn laatste rit met de Lunar Rover was zijn hoogste snelheid 18 km/uur, wat een onofficieel snelheidsrecord opleverde.
Helaas is E.A. Cernan op 16 januari 2017 overleden.
De Speedmaster die wij u hier aanbieden is een eerbetoon aan de Apollo XVII missie waar Eugene Cernan de gezagvoerder was. Deze horloges zijn in beperkte aantallen op de markt gebracht. Dit is nummer 1779 van 3000 stuks. De set is compleet met originele doos, papieren en certificaat.
