The Tank Basculante
De ‘Tank Réversible’ is ontstaan uit een gezamenlijk patent van Cartier en Jaeger. Het patent uit 1926 beschrijft een horlogekast dat 180 graden gedraaid kan worden om de wijzerplaat te laten verdwijnen en tegelijkertijd de achterkant van de kast te laten verschijnen met eventuele inscripties. Het ingenieuze systeem maakt mogelijk dat de (binnen) kast 360 graden gedraaid kan worden om haar horizontale as en bevestigd kan worden in een tweede (buiten) kast. Hieruit volgend heeft Jaeger een eigen systeem gepatenteerd voor zijn model Reverso waarbij de horlogekast over de korte, verticale zijde gedraaid kan worden.
Het is niet bekend hoeveel er van deze ‘Tank Basculante’ zijn gemaakt, wel dat er wijzerplaten met verschillende tekst bestaan. Ons exemplaar vermeld alleen ‘Cartier’ en er zijn modellen bekend met de toevoeging ‘Paris’ of ‘France’. Het uurwerk is van ‘European Watch & Clock Co. Inc.’ en dient met de hand opgewonden te worden. Het horloge is door Cartier Zwitserland onder handen genomen en wordt geleverd met servicepapieren.
Het staat buiten kijf dat dit een uiterst zeldzaam Cartier horloge is met een uniek kastsysteem. Gezocht door verzamelaars en nu bij ons in de winkel.
