The Rolex Oyster Precision is one of the classic dress watches by Rolex. Measuring only a modest 34 mm, this watch is not big at all. But it’s size is the only way in which this watch is modest. The case and bracelet were built with 9k. gold, a very high-end material for 1956, and quite rare! A nice detail about the material of this watch is that the 9K gold doesn’t have a very bright yellow colour of gold. It has a more brushed and slightly faded gold colour which is way more beautiful and unique in comparison to more modern gold watches.
The dial makes this watch more special. The minority of the Rolex Oyster Precisions had the 3, 6 and 9 numeral indexes, and those were finished with luminous tritium on the outside of the indexes. However, this dial was finished with all indexes positioned a little more towards the outside, and the tritium dots were put on the centre-side of every index which makes this dial a rare one. The patina it has developed over the last 63 years makes this a fine vintage piece.
The bracelet on this watch is an original Rolex brick-bracelet. It is seen only on 1950s and early 1960s Rolex watches, and was optional. It was quite an untraditional bracelet at the time and therefore not popular. However, it is still very beautiful and unique and finding one today in this condition is hard, to say the least.
Another funny detail, the case back was engraved by the Paulden’s store from Piccadilly garden, Manchester, which gives you some physical reference of the origin of this watch.
