The 3rd edition of ‘Meet the Master’ with watchmaker D. Dornblüth
Because we like to give our customers and fellow watch enthusiasts the opportunity to have a meet-and-greet with Master watchmakers or small independent watch companies, we organize the ‘Meet The Master’ event.
Coming March the 17th we have our third edition of the exclusive Meet The Master event and our Master Watchmaker this time will be: Dirk Dornblüth of D. Dornblüth & Sohn.
During this event, you have the opportunity to meet Master Watchmaker Dirk Dornblüth. He will be more than happy to share the story about his Company ‘D. Dornblüth & Sohn’ he started together with his father in 1999 and of course all the details of the watches he and his team designs and produces. We are very pleased that he, especially for this event, brings his latest (prototype) watch models. And of course, it’s possible to order and personalize the Dornblüth watch you prefer at the event.

D. Dornblüth & Sohn, the history
The history of Dornblüth watches reads like a family novel. Dirk Dornblüth always had the ambition to have his own watch brand, but several decades ago, his father had the same idea. It wasn’t the right time for his father. The town he lived in, was located in former East Germany (DDR) and the opportunities were not available. Many years later, the Berlin wall had fallen down and his son Dirk was a watchmaker himself, Dirk gave his father on his 60th Birthday a watch he totally made himself. This gift triggered his father and especially his original ideas and eventually led to presenting the first D. Dornblüth watch, model 99.0 in the year 1999.
Nowadays the brand D. Dornblüth & Sohn fall in the category ‘micro brands’ and the watches are conversation pieces amongst watch enthusiasts and on watch forums. With his own manufacture caliber Q2010 the Watchmaker clears the way to develop his ambition and passion into the future.
The new standard lies in the smaller size watchcase 39 mm instead of the earlier models in 42 mm. During the years a lot of technical developments were created and produced. Because of this developments, watches of D. Dornblüth are one of a kind and a privilege to wear and own.
D. Dornblüth & Sohn, the movement
The key for the manufacturer (in-house) movements lies in the past. Fascinated by the unique ‘Maltezer cross construction’ the movement uses two serial springs through which a linear torque feeds the balance thus creating a very smooth movement. It’s more accurate and linear, as said. A construction which is patented in Germany and Switzerland.
Next, to the use of a Breguet-spiral, the workforce of Dornblüth integrated an escapement with a forgotten element from the ‘40’s, the short escapement. This special construction reduces the ‘failures’ which is created by the often used ‘Swiss escapement’ used by many Swiss watchmakers.
D. Dornblüth & Sohn, the dial
As to be expected of a manufacture watch the dial is made by D. Dornblüth & Sohn themselves. Next to the satin silver dials, since 2017 Dornblüth makes ceramic dials. Unique and only made in Kalbe. This multi-layered dial exists of a silisium carbide top finish on a brass base.
Highly exceptional is the fact that the process of making these ceramic dials happens at the workplace of D. Dornblüth & Sohn. The brand name ‘D. Dornblüth & Sohn‘ together with the index numbers is milled out of the dial and later on filled with a color the customer desires. This process is unique and is something like a modern enamel dial.
